Microsoft Melirik Saham RIM

VIVANews - Bursa saham dikejutkan dengan kabar Microsoft berminat menanamkan investasi miliaran dollar untuk produsen smartphone yang sedang dalam pergulatan krisis, Research In Motion. Punggawa BlackBerry ini kini mengekplorasi alternatif yang strategis sebagai hasil penelaahan CEO terbaru. Menurut situs Cellular-News, pernyataan ini menjadi indikasi pertama potensi RIM untuk menggandeng Microsoft.

Blog finansial Benzinga menyarankan investasi Microsoft bisa berada di wilayah US$3.5 miliar. RIM memiliki porofolio hak paten yang dapat menarik minat Microsoft yang sedang berada dalam perang paten.

Microsoft bukan kali pertama berinvestasi langsung kepada manufaktur ponsel. Medio 2001, vendor smartphone asal Inggris, Sendo menerima uang Microsoft untuk membangun smartphone berbasis Windows.

Kerjasama dengan Sendo makin sengit ketika perusahaan asal Taiwan, HTC merilis ponsel tandingan. Sendo menuduh hasil kompetitor itu dibuat berdasarkan software kreasi mereka. Sendo menuntut Microsoft yang berakhir dengan jalan damai.

Gerak Microsoft mengintai saham RIM dapat memantik masalah dengan partner smartphone terbesar mereka, Nokia. Kerjasama Microsoft dengan Nokia telah melahirkan smartphone Nokia Lumia 900 yang kompetitif di pasaran. Apakah RIM akan mengganti BlackBerry OS dengan Windows Phone ketika bersandar ke Microsoft?

Panasonic KX-TG1061M Cordless/Corded Phone with Answering Machine

I purchased this phone a couple of weeks ago, as a replacement for a phone that had issue with the audio. I also wanted to be able use a very expensive headset I have. I have spent hours trying to find the right phone. I don't know what made me have an extra look at this phone, but the more I looked, and the more reviews I read, the more I liked it and I ended up purchasing it. I am using it mostly for my home office, but do use it for the occasional personal call as well.

Pros
====

1. It has a good sound, so far I have not had the issues I had with my old phone. I have tried both the handset and the speakerphone, and like both. I particularly like the fact that I can put it on speaker, dial the number, and pick up the phone if I need to, or use the speaker phone. I also like that it's possible to switch between handset and speaker phone. Nice touch!
2. The buttons/keys are nice. Easy to see without being too large. There are 5 options for speed dial, which made my life very easy! Some buttons (soft buttons) change depending on what you are doing with the phone at the time (on call or not, for example)
3. Menus that are easy to understand. The handset is a little bit trickier than the desk phone, but in essence you can do what you want on that too.
4. Once a number is programmed into the phone, it can be sent from handset to desk phone and vice versa. I only have one handset (will buy a second one soon), but I understand from the descriptions that you cannot send between handsets. But both can send to desk phone, and from there can be sent to hand sets. You can send all, or individual numbers.
5. Large display. It's quite easy to read. I do have some issues with the display, see cons.

Cons
====

• Display. While I generally like the display, I wish it had been raised a bit, or that the phone had a greater angle. I have to either get off my chair or lift my phone in order to see the menus. Once a button is pushed, it's easy enough to see due to the back light, but it annoys me that I have to stretch my neck to see. It's a minor thing, but still.
• Answering Machine. When I got the phone, one of the first things I did, was to try to configure the answering machine. But that cannot be done on the desk phone, it has to be done by the hand set. Since that should be charged for 7 hours before use, this is a bit inconvenient. I thought this could have been done on the phone as well. The man telling me how many messages I've missed has a very metallic voice, clearly computer generated. It's annoying, but nothing major.
• Phone bigger under the handset. This I didn't realise looking at the picture, but the phone is not square. It is a good portion larger where the receiver is compared to the rest of the phone. That means that raising the phone at a larger angle may be an issue (see display above). One really needs a "cradle" to put the phone into.
• Metallic voice/feedback in my headset. I am not sure it's the phone or the combination, but my headset (Plantronic) is in the $250-range, and this phone is no where near as expensive, which leads me to think it's the phone. Especially since the headset has been used before without this issue. But it's something only I hear, not the one I am talking with, and it's not all the time either. It could be because it gets dual feedback, my headset pick it up, and so does the receiver (it has to be lifted off the hook).

But I like this phone, and I am likely to have it for a long time to come. It does the job much better than my previous phone, and the fact that I can use my headset is a serious bonus. I would definitely recommend it for anyone in need of a phone.

Edit: I just got another handset for this phone. Pairing the handset with the phone was a cinch, there is even a button for it. Then I just pressed the menu buttons and sent my entire phone list to the new phone. I also discovered yesterday that I can even listen in on the message on the handset when someone calls and I let it go to answering machine. I really like the features of this phone. 

Crosley Kettle Classic Desk Phone CR62-Black: Sweet Phone

This is a very attractive phone to which I put a lot of effort into finding this style. It's location in my home is one where it is not used very often. In 3 months it was used less than half a dozen times. I was shocked and extremely disappointed to try to answer a call recently and hear nothing on the other end. The other caller was able to hear me. There was no dial tone. Even trying different lines and phone jacks did not help. There is no damage to the phone. I have been trying to contact the seller: Northstar Electronics, but have been unable to get through on the phone number listed on Amazon or receive a reply via their e-mail contact. Even if I decide to try to have the phone replaced/repaired by the original manufacture, I will be out another $20 for shipping costs they require. This has been a complete waste of money and a total disappointment!

I couldn't find any other 2 handset cordless phone for this low price, and this is a good one with all features needed from a good cordless phone. great deal!
Set up is extremely easy...so is changing the ring tone you hear when someone calls.Relatively flat compared to most sets out there. Buttons are harder plastic, not the soft rubbery buttons....this I like. The display is clear to read....I'll have to agree that display isn't extremely bright but it is lit up enough to read the screen. I haven't had it long enough to worry about this yet or play with it. The phones have good volume.

Amazon is presenting this as the "newer model" of the the AT&T SL82318 DECT 6.0 phone. It has most of the same features -- high quality, clear, crisp sound, very good range, clear display, reasonably simple number storage and auto-dial -- but it does NOT have a jack for a headset, which the earlier model did. So if that feature is important to you, this is not the phone you want. (And no, the old model handset is not interchangeable with the new ones. It would be great if AT&T offered a compatible single-phone expansion set for this series with a headset jack.) Another minor annoyance is that although the phone hangs up when you put it in the charging cradle, it does not automatically turn on if it's ringing and you remove it from the cradle; you have to push a button. But overall a very good phone.

I bought this phone to have as a back up for when power goes out. So obviously it doesn't require power to operate. It has no bells or whistles. No caller ID, no message waiting light, and so on.
For the price you can't beat it. My only grip is the ring tone is horrible. It's a "chirp" sound and it scares my cat!
I highly recommend this phone to anyone that wants a plain basic phone. Something rare these days.

It's actually a nice phone. Didn't want features, just something to use during power outages and ended up using it as an everyday phone.

I have had this phone for a month and I really want to write a review because the detail description doesn't tell us any thing much but it actually has a lot of features that other companies do not make. I owned many cordless phones so far but this is far better than others.


1. The phone uses the AAA rechargeable batteries NiMH. It can be replaced with any AAA NiMH batteries. I replaced mine with the higher capacity of NiMH batteries so it lasts even longer. The phone claims for 13 hours talk time. I never clock when I talk but it lasts very long time. And unlike other brands that we have to use only the manufacturer's batteries made for that phone.

2. Headphone Jack.....Bingo!! Finally I found a cordless phone with a headphone jack. Again no other brands make it and I don't know why but here I got it. It works absolutely perfect with a Panasonic headset. Sound is very clear.

3. Battery indicator.....My Vtech phones show a level of battery only while it's being charged but this Panasonic, the indicator shows the battery level all the time.

4. It speaks the phone number out loud when there is an incoming call.

Bottom line because of the first two reasons above, this will be my last cordless phone I ever bought since the batteries can be replaced with the regular rechargeable AAA NiMH. Highly recommended!!!!!!!!!!!
